Fojnica is a town and municipality in central Bosnia and Herzegovina, located west of the capital Sarajevo. It lies in the valley of the Fojnička River, tributary of the river Bosna. Fojnica is a small, picturesque town in central Bosnia. Two buildings that have dominated the sleepy town for centuries, the Franciscan Priory of the Holy Spirit and the Carsijska dzamija mosque, illustrate the dual religious heritage of Fojnica as a place important to both Muslims and Catholics. The two shrines are not just religious centres for nearby people. They are also the focal points of interest for all those coming to the Fojnica region. A representative of the Bosnian Franciscans, Fr. Angel Zvizdović (died 07. 05. 1498) on 28. May 1463 went in front of Sultan Mehmed II Fatih on Milodraževo field near Fojnica, admitted him for a new master of Bosnia, and asked him for religion and property freedom of action. To prevent their emigration, and to encouraged those who had already moved out to return, he gave them ahdnama (charter). Fojnica is also famous for its spa. This spa is one of the biggest in country.
